Martin L. Hatfield, County Attorney

Child Support Enforcement

The Pulaski County Attorney's Office Division of Child Support Enforcement is committed to serving the families of Pulaski County by helping ensure that children receive the financial and medical support to which they are entitled under Kentucky law. Effective child support enforcement plays an important role in promoting the well-being, stability, and future success of children throughout our community.

The Child Support Division works in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to provide a variety of services, including:

  • Establishing child support and medical support obligations;

  • Establishing paternity for children born outside of marriage;

  • Enforcing existing child support and medical support orders;

  • Locating absent or noncustodial parents;

  • Reviewing support orders for possible modification;

  • Assisting with interstate child support cases;

  • Collecting and distributing child support payments; and

  • Initiating enforcement remedies authorized under Kentucky law, including wage withholding and contempt proceedings when appropriate.

Kentucky law requires both parents to provide financial support for their children. Child support obligations are generally determined using the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, which consider factors such as each parent’s income, childcare expenses, health insurance costs, and the needs of the child.

The Pulaski County Child Support Office has consistently worked to secure support for local children and families. In 2016 alone, the office collected more than $5.3 million in child support payments on behalf of children in our community.
